Description
A set of six cantilever dining chairs by Magnus Olesen for Durup, produced in Denmark in the 1970s. The bentwood beech frame and cantilevered base give them the characteristic spring and flex that makes this format so persistently popular — comfortable without upholstery doing all the work, and visually lighter than four-legged alternatives of the same era. Dark tone upholstery completes the look in a way that works naturally in a dining room, conference room, or kitchen.
Magnus Olesen has been producing Danish seating since the 1930s, and Durup-era pieces like these represent a high point in their mid-century output. At 18.5 inches wide the chairs are efficiently scaled for a dining table without feeling cramped. All six present well and show only minor wear consistent with age and use. One chair frame has a shallow split to the front that does not compromise stability.
