We are a furniture refinishing and chair caning shop in Columbus, Ohio. We have a growing library of methods to address scratches, dings, dents, stains and damaged caning on your piece. Our approach is conservative — we love restoring wood to its original character, while honoring the history a piece carries. FAQs
How much does furniture refinishing cost?
Cost varies greatly depending on the piece and the amount of work required. A straightforward top of a dresser can start at $240 while dining tables seem to be the most surprising and have costs starting at close to $800-900 because of the significant amount of surface area.
How long does chair caning take?
Our turnaround time for caning one or two chairs is approximately 2-3 weeks. Various weaving patterns and materials alter the number of hours required to prep a piece and then to install or weave the new material. Danish Modern cording, for example, takes approximately 3 hours per seat to weave once the seat has been prepped. Traditional hand caning using the 7-step method is even more time-consuming as you think through the fact that you’re making 7 passes over the same area. Cane webbing replacement is shorter on the installation, but more time consuming on the preparation side of things.
Is it worth refinishing old furniture?
We’re happy to advise you and walk you through this question. It varies from person-to-person and from piece-to-piece. Let’s say you find a great deal and buy a dresser on Facebook Marketplace for $20, but it’s in rough shape. If it’s a good quality dresser, it could very well be worth saving the piece and having it refinished. We tend to think of the investment more along the lines of longevity of the piece – if the piece itself is of good quality and will last for decades more, it could be a good refinishing candidate. If the piece isn’t constructed well or carries value, either via appraisal or sentiment, we might recommend other alternatives.
Can you ship furniture for refinishing?
Absolutely. We’re happy to take in pieces and return them via freight shipping either arranged by the client or by us. We have a number of trusted shipping partners positioned all over the United States and would be happy to handle logistics.
